The Institute was founded in 1975 as a one year program designed to give basic training to those seeking service in Christian ministry. Four years later, it was obvious that there was a need for a more comprehensive curriculum—but at the same time stressing the strong biblical teaching for which the Institute was becoming known. From the Fall of 1979 to the Spring of 1985, the curricu-lum was composed on the basis of a three-year-cycle. Beginning in the Fall of 1985, that cycle was modified to a four-year-cycle. Thus, only once in four years, usually, is a particular evening course offered. For example, the book of Acts will be taught in the Fall of 2007 and will be taught again in the Fall of 2011. The central theme of the Institute continues to be the giving of a sound Bible education to those preparing for the ministry and in the relatively shortest time. Currently, NSBI has trained over 150 people for ministry, with many more in training. There are Pastors across the country and missionaries who have served or are serving in over 15 countries.
